What is the job about? 


The Bioinformatics & Cheminformatics team within the Product Strategy group is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Bioinformatics Engineer to support the development, maintenance and optimization of bioinformatics workflows. The position will involve regular interactions with scientists as part of a cross-regional and multidisciplinary network of researchers, computational biologists, data scientists and software engineers.

In this role, you will:

  • Guide the development, optimization and scaling up of NGS-related pipelines particularly in microbiome research and translational medicine
  • Prototype, test and validate novel ideas, technologies, tools and algorithms to deliver significant scientific value
  • Act as a subject matter expert for various software development projects

 

Required experience and skills: 

  • MSc or PhD (preferred) degree in bioinformatics or related field with at least 2 year experience in industry or academic settings
  • A good track record of peer-reviewed publications is desirable
  • Experience in implementing computational workflows for analysis of NGS and other high-throughput data, for example: WGS, Exome-seq, single cell, metagenomics (preferred), epigenetics, GWAS, eQTL, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and quantitative proteomics
  • Extensive knowledge of open-source and proprietary computational biology tools and databases
  • Solid statistical knowledge and understanding of current scientific challenges in microbiome research and/or immunology and oncology
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and high professional standards with strong ability to prioritize and work under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and ability to simplify and explain complex biological problems to data scientists and software engineers
  • Excellent programming skills in a subset of the following languages: Python, Perl, Java/C++, R/Shiny, Matlab, with the knowledge of Linux/Unix, SQL, and version control, e.g. Git
  • Experience with HPC and cloud computing (AWS) distributed computing
  • Experience in clinical data mining and machine learning approaches is a plus
