We are ShipMonk, and we provide logistics services in order fulfillment. Our main business is in the USA, but our modern platform is built by the Product Development team in Prague. Here at ShipMonk, we process up to 100,000 orders per day in our peak season. Our book of business has more than 1,500 clients, which are small and medium e-shops, mostly based in the US. We offer the ShipMonk platform as the solution for the whole process. It covers everything from stocking the items to shipping the ready packages to all corners of the world! We are looking for a Manager, Data & AI to shape and lead a new team inside Product
Development. You will own a group of senior data scientists and data engineers focused on
transportation (VCN optimization, predictive routing, claims) and IMS data products, plus one
AI Consultant working horizontally across ShipMonk. Your job is to make sure the right
people land in the right seats, models reach production, savings show up in the P&L, and
insights become product features merchants actually use.
Key responsibilities
• Shape and build the team: step into the live hiring loop from day one, calibrate the
bar, and own every offer close.
• Onboard new hires deliberately — each person should know what they own, what
success looks like in 90 days, and who their key partners are.
• Define the team’s mandate, scope, and interfaces with Product, Platform,
Operations, CX, and Finance. Write it down.
• Set the v1 roadmap and OKRs, make trade-offs explicit, and run a transparent
quarterly OKR cycle.
• Own the AI agenda for the data function — decide where AI changes the economics
of how ShipMonk runs and where it doesn’t.
• Drive AI-assisted development across the team (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) —
lead by using these tools yourself, daily.
• Be accountable for what your team ships: model performance, pipeline reliability, and
production behavior.
• Frame technical investment in business terms and own quarterly ROI reporting to
leadership.
• Develop your people — run honest performance cycles, grow senior ICs into tech
leads, and build the AI Consultant into someone with cross-company influence.
• Represent ShipMonk in the Prague data community: write, speak, be visible. Be a
hiring magnet, not just a hiring manager.
What You’ll Bring
• 5+ years in data science, data engineering, or analytics engineering, with at least 2
years leading a data team.
• Demonstrable hiring track record — you’ve personally hired multiple senior data
scientists or engineers who turned out strong.
• Track record of shipping models or data products into production with measurable
business impact. Analysis decks don’t count.
• Hands-on background: strong Python and SQL, comfortable with dbt and a cloud
data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift).
• Strong business thinking — you can kill scope, re-sequence a roadmap, and push
back on leadership when needed.
• Active, daily user of modern AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or
equivalents) — you can describe specifically how AI has changed how you and your
team work.
• Strong written English for async discussions, strategy docs, and cross-functional
decisions.
Your team and stakeholders
You will report to the Director of Data Platform and partner directly with Product, Operations,
CX, and Finance. The first version of the team is five to seven people: senior data scientists
and data engineers covering transportation and IMS, plus one AI Consultant. Hiring is
moving in parallel with your own onboarding — you own the bar, the interview loop, and the
final calls from day one. With the right results, the natural growth path is Senior Manager or
Director of Data, with broader scope across analytics, ML platform, and AI.
Why should you apply?
• You will attend our beautiful Karlín offices with free snacks, grill parties, and many
educational events.
• This is a clear growth platform — the path to Senior Manager or Director of Data is
real and fast.
• High autonomy and ownership from day one — you set the AI agenda for the entire
data function.
• Direct access to leadership and cross-functional partners across Product,
Operations, CX, and Finance.
• You’ll build something from scratch — a new team with a serious mandate, not a
maintenance job.
